In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was transformed into an interfaith mass broadcasted online. An empty church, candles and texts about life, death and love by Stephen Hawking, the Dalai Lama, John Paul II, Yoko Ono, Alexey II and Mikhail Zhvanetsky and nothing more. Each performance crowned the announcement of the winners in corresponding nominations, from literature and theater to charity and science.
